Drinks to Avoid for Lighter Teeth

If you need teeth whitening, contact Total Health Dental.
Some of the things we drink do a number on our teeth. They can erode the enamel, leave stains behind, and they can even cause damage that isn't reversible if we drink too much of the wrong thing. Some drinks can unassumingly cause a lot of damage, even if they provide good things for your teeth, too. You need to make sure that you balance out what you drink and include plenty of water. Your teeth need that just as much, if not more, than other items you may be drinking.

Avoid These Drinks for Lighter Colored Teeth

One of the major culprits of stained teeth is coffee. People drink it religiously to wake up each morning, and often drink it throughout the day to help them stay awake and more alert. If you are a coffeeholic, then you need to make sure that you drink a lot of water after each cup. This cuts down on how much damage your teeth take from coffee. Ideally, you want to cut down on how much you drink until you don't need it anymore, if that’s possible.

Wine does the same thing as coffee. Even white wine leaves stains on your teeth and can cause your teeth to be darker in color. Surprisingly, tea is one of the drinks that can stain your teeth as well. The tannins in tea are very similar to those in coffee, and can leave similar stains on your teeth. Whenever possible, you want to drink water and milk, avoiding any substances that contain tannins or foods that are known to stain your teeth, like the juice from berries.

If you want other ideas of things you can do to lighten up your teeth, call your dentist. They can see you, examine your teeth, and help you come up with a plan to keep your teeth night, light, and healthy. If you have any questions, or if you would like to learn more, please call us today at (503) 968-6101.
